I have many goals in life just like everyone does, these being a few of them. To initiate the process of myself achieving these, this is mearly myself projecting and manifesting my thoughts into reality!
After a long roller coaster MMA career, struggling to find a new competitive sport and purpose to train, I have finally found a new journey to begin for the next few years….mabye 10!
The first is something I strangely used to hate with a passion and never once thought I’d grow a genuine obsessive passion for………RUNNING!
More specifically, extreme ultra-running. I participated in my first ever race last month (New Forest 10k), placed 12th overall and nearly died in the process keeping up with seasoned runners. I then took part in the Queen Elizabeth London Park 5k run and placed 3rd.
I am now signed up to my first trail marathon (45km/28miles) in December followed by my first beginner ultra-trail marathon in January…Country to Capital (72km/45miles).
My main motivation for this was after experiencing not only how hard these long extreme distances are physically but also how tough they are mentally. I have literally never experienced mental battles like these in any sport I have previously participated in! Unfortunately for me the harder something is for me, the more motivated I am to achieve it!
I have a list of races I personally look to conquer over the next few years which are considered among some of the toughest foot races in the world, subject to gaining entry which in itself is extremely difficult:
1. Fuego Y Agua Survival Race – 80-100km with 10-15 extreme challenges/obstacles on the volcanic island of Nicaragua.
2. Badwater 135 – 135-mile race through Death Valley and up Mount Whitney at the hottest time of the year!
3. The Spine Race – covers the 268miles of The Pennine Way, and is held each year in the midst of winter.
4. The Ultra Jungle – 142.6 miles in Peruvian rain forests
5. Marathon des Sables – 156 miles through the Sahara desert
6. The Barkley Marathons – 100 Miles in Tennessee, no aid, no gps, no trail to follow
7. Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc – 103 miles through the Alps of France, Italy and Switzerland.
On to my second journey alongside this, to follow a 100% strict fruitarian lifestyle while switching my calisthenics training to aid hypertrophy. How muscular can one become on a fruit based diet within 1 year!?
If I’m honest, I’m making life very difficult already by doing this alongside the ultra-running but that’s just how it has panned out so I’ll have to deal with it and do the best I can. Plus, if you look at a typical ultra-runner, they lack muscle mass to aid with running such long distances. Can I be an exception!?
This second journey is based on how fascinating and intriguing I find this challenge and whether it will be possible to do. I haven’t really come across anyone online who has achieved this with impressive enough results, either fruit based or just claim they are natural (please correct me if I’m wrong).
Are Vegan fitness models/bodybuilders etc. using steroids to enhance while claiming they are meat and steroid free!? Part of me is unsure to how great results can be on this lifestyle in regards to building large muscle mass but I want to find out for myself.
Up until now, my training has been calisthenics skill and fight conditioning based. My eating has been 90% fruit and the rest would be various other vegetables etc. as and when I feel like it with the occasional treat at various vegan restaurants or homemade vegan meals.
I’ve been very happy with the aesthetic results not that this was ever the motivation so it will be extremely interesting to add muscle building specific training and keeping it 100% with the fruits!
Science and book-smart fitness people will say this will NOT work which is understandable….but I love being that eccentric somebody who defies and manifests otherwise!
I plan to officially begin in January which will give me enough time to plan and prepare, so subscribe to my YouTube should this be of any interest to you.
